Description:
What All Staff Should Know
Around 80% of individuals with dementia are living at home in the community at large. This means they are living in your neighborhoods and in your housing communities. There are many whose cognition has not changed enough to affect their everyday living and independence and are often undiagnosed. That said, there are more and more residents living with dementia in affordable housing settings. Individuals can often live with symptoms of dementia many years before something happens that causes challenges with everyday living. It is important for all staff to understand more about dementia and its effect on residents who are beginning to experience cognitive impairment. We will demystify current perceptions as well as clarify and define what dementia really is. Also, we will share what individuals living with dementia tell us about their lived experiences and the support they need from us. We will provide information on ways person-centered organizations are meeting the needs of this population. This webinar is appropriate for staff working in any role and in any type of affordable housing property.

Programs Covered:
  •  All property types (all staff)
Learning Objectives:
  • Become familiar with the main types of dementia, causes, early symptoms, and how to recognize them.
  • Review video clips of a person living with dementia who describes their lived experience and understand why knowing each resident is important.
  • Examine various ways to support a person living with dementia and explore resources available for both residents and staff.
