Description:
In affordable housing communities, person-centered practices are now the standard throughout all areas of the organization, from administrative to service coordination to maintenance. “Culture Change” is the common name given to this national movement for the transformation of older adult housing and services. It is based on person-directed practices and living. We will present ways to interpret the fundamental aspects of culture change in affordable housing environments, including how it relates to self-determination, maintaining independence, and developing care partnerships. This person-centered approach frames services and supports through the eyes of the residents, where their choices and actions are based entirely on their unique needs, desires, and preferences.
