Recently, NAHMA published a NAHMAnalysis about the newly released NSPIRE Demonstration Notice, as well as a series of NAHMAnlyses on the state of housing at local and national levels.
Emerging Changes to REAC: Initial Release of NSPIRE Standards and Demonstration Notice As part of its continuing efforts to overhaul the physical inspection process, HUD recently published its Notice of Demonstration to Assess the National Standards for the Physical Inspection of Real Estate (NSPIRE) and Associated Protocols in the Federal Register. The release of this notice initiates a 60-day public comment period after which HUD can begin the NSPIRE Demonstration with the goal of overhauling REAC. This NAHMAnalysis examines the various components of the Notice and outlines next steps for owners.
The State of the Nation's Housing 2019 Report
The Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies (JCHS) has produced its annual “State of the Nation's Housing” report for 2019. This NAHMAnalysis provides NAHMA members with relevant affordable housing data and information, as provided by the JCHS staff; we encourage members to review the full report for additional details. This NAHMAnalysis highlights the recent Public and Affordable Housing Research Corporation (PAHRC) “Housing Impact Report” on trends and impacts of federal housing assistance programs. PARHC's 2019 report describes the latest research on the impact housing assistance has on seniors, children, adults, and families, including housing stability, health and education outcomes, financial security, and economic mobility.
National League of Cities Reports on Affordable Housing: Approaches at the State, Local, and City Levels
Earlier this year, the National League of Cities (NLC) released two affordable housing reports: Local Tools to Address Housing Affordability: A State-by-State Analysis and Homeward Bound: The Road to Affordable Housing." This NAHMAnalysis highlights NCL's findings from both the State-by-State Analysis and the Homeward Bound report's proposed policy recommendations to address the affordable housing crisis. Members are encouraged to review both reports, which also provide a number of substantive case studies from cities implementing innovative solutions.
