USDA Invests More Than $1.2 Million to Rehabilitate Homes and Provide Technical Assistance for Underserved Rural Residents in Tennessee

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Under Secretary Xochitl Torres Small announced today that USDA is investing $102 million to expand access to housing and water infrastructure for underserved rural people who live and work in 47 states and American Samoa. The 263 projects in which USDA is investing will create economic opportunities and improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in rural America. Tennessee State Director Arlisa Armstrong is pleased to announce more than $1.2million in investments will go to rehabilitate homes and provide technical assistance in rural eastern counties of Tennessee.

The Bipartisan Policy Center’s American Housing Act of 2023

Every American deserves to live in a decent home at an affordable price. Stable housing in a safe neighborhood is essential for families’ physical and mental well-being—and the cost of affording a place to live should not be an overwhelming burden. The American Housing Act of 2023 (AHA), a collection of bipartisan legislative proposals identified by Bipartisan Policy Center that are designed to increase the supply of affordable homes and to address the key drivers of high housing costs. This includes efforts to preserve, enhance, and transform the existing housing stock, while also addressing certain key demand-side proposals, such as enhanced financial assistance for families burdened by continued high costs and inflation.

USDA Accepts Applications for Rural Energy for America Program

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack yesterday announced that the department is making $300 million available under the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) to expand renewable energy and support energy-efficiency projects for people living in rural America. This funding includes $250 million provided by the Biden-Harris Administration’s historic legislative package known as the Inflation Reduction Act

HUD Releases 2022 Annual Homeless Assessment Report

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today released its 2022 Annual Homeless Assessment Report (AHAR) Part 1 to Congress. The report found 582,462 people were experiencing homelessness on a single night in January 2022. COVID-19 and its economic impacts could have led to significant increases in homelessness, however, investments, partnerships, and government agency outreach resulted in only a .3% increase in the number of people experiencing homelessness from 2020 to 2022.

Simple Transfer Pilot Program Announced for Sec. 515 Properties

Multifamily Housing (MFH) has developed a pilot program for simple transfers under authority in Section 506(b) of the Housing Act of 1949, as amended (42 U.S.C. §1476(b)). Guidance on Rate Reduction Incentives Program for PHAs Updated

WASHINGTON - Today, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is announcing updated guidance on the use and eligibility of the Rate Reduction Incentive (RRI). The RRI serves as a climate-friendly incentive program available to Public Housing Agencies (PHA) that encourages them to reduce their utility rates beyond what is already required by statute and/or regulation.
