DRUG FREE POSTER/ART CONTEST RULES

- All contestants submitting a poster/art must be residents of a property that is currently a member in good standing at SAHMA.
- Contestants will be judged on their ability to create an original art with a drug-free message that portrays the theme.
Judges will consider:
- Interpretation of the Theme
- Originality
- Quality -- How does the art look? Are the lines and colors clean?
- Overall Artistic Ability -- Does it show creativity and skill for the age group?
- Will the colors reproduce onto a calendar with quality and clarity?
- Contestants will be judged in the following:
- Kindergarten through first grade
- Second through third grade
- Fourth through sixth grade
- Seventh through ninth grade
- Tenth through twelfth grade
- Seniors
- Posters must be designed and produced by the contestants without hands-on help from anyone.
- Posters must be submitted on poster board or heavy art paper measuring 28 inches by 22 inches. Both horizontal or vertical designs are accepted.
- Any medium may be used including paints, crayons, colored pencils, markers, chalk or collage. However, the medium should be adequately protected against damage.
- The unauthorized use of cartoon characters or product names and logos is prohibited, as it the use of an individual's name or likeness, register or copyrighted images and the name of the housing development or SAHMA.
- All entries should have a completed SAHMA entry form taped securely to the BACK of the poster. All information must be legible and no names or identifying information should appear on the front of the poster.
- All poster submitted become the property of SAHMA and NAHMA, who have the non-exclusive right to use the poster for publicity, publications and advertisements. POSTERS WILL NOT BE RETURNED.
- All state regional winners must sign a SAHMA Release of Liability form to receive their prizes. All national winners must sign a NAHMA Release of Liability form to receive prizes.
- Posters will be selected according to the categories listed above and awards will be distributed accordingly.
DON'T:
- procrastinate. Get started planning NOW!
- forget the SAHMA deadline.
- try to do it all yourself. Get other employees and uninvolved residents to help out.
- be afraid to ask for donations from local businesses.
- forget the theme or misrepresent the rules or prizes.
- waste time and money on poor planing.
- give out the poster board until the final drawing session. Use butcher block or practice paper.
- provide the wrong size poster board.
- allow names or information on the front of the poster.
- expect entrants to finish in one day or less. Allow practice sessions.
- hurry the participants. It's not about who finishes fastest.
- change anything on a poster.
- be critical of any participant's work or style.
