About SAHMA

Founded in 1982, the Southeastern Affordable Housing Management Association is a nonprofit organization whose members are owners and managers of privately-owned, government-regulated housing throughout the Southeast. We are part of a national network of AHMAs and partner with the National Affordable Housing Management Association (NAHMA). SAHMA's purpose is to provide education, information services, networking opportunities and representation for our members in an effort to preserve the nation's stock of low-income affordable housing and ensure a quality of life for its residents.

How We Work

As a nonprofit organization, SAHMA is governed by a Board of Directors who adminster the association using a set of by-laws. A copy of our by-laws is available to all members upon request. In addition, the IRS requires that our three most recent annual information returns (Form 990) and our applications for tax exemption be available for inspection. To request a copy of any of these materials, please email info@sahma.org.

All the business of the corporation is managed by the Board of Directors, which consists of a president, president-elect, five vice presidents, 19 directors: one director for each state in our region -- AL, FL, GA, KY, MS, NC, PR, SC and TN; and one from our Associate Member category. The Officers of the Corporation, elected from the Board, are the President, President-Elect, and six Vice-Presidents responsible for Membership, Education, Regulations, Finance, Housing Credit Affairs and State Activities. Officers and Directors serve without compensation for three-year terms, staggered to elect one-third of the Board at each annual meeting. Much of the work required to run member services is conducted by volunteers managed by State Committees. Terms of service for committee members are one year.

The particulars of association business are handled by the SAHMA staff.
