NAHMA HUD Update: VAWA Guidance issued for PHAs and Owners in Public Housing, HCV, and Mod Rehab programs

HUD recently released guidance on the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013. The notice provides guidance for Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) and owners on the requirements of implementing the VAWA Final Rule (published in November 2016) in HUD housing programs.

VAWA 2013 implemented several key changes related to housing protections for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. This guidance applies to PHAs administering the Public Housing program, the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program, and Section 8 Moderate Rehabilitation.

NAHMA expects HUD will soon release VAWA guidance for other programs, including Project-Based Section 8.
